Itinerary

Day 1: Day 1 – Getting to Pati Valley and Funis Waterfall

Stop At: Chapada Diamantina National Park, Chapada Diamantina National Park, State of Bahia
Meet at Palmeiras or Vale do Capão (Capão Valley). Departure by car to Guiné at 8 AM and the start of the path to Pati Valley. Crossing the highlands of Rio Preto crossed by many rivers. These vast expanses have been exploited by gold diggers and cattle breeders for nearly a century. The circuit follows the path of muleteers which offers a spectacular view of all the massifs of Pati, one of the most isolated areas of the Natural Park. Endemic rock vegetation, carnivorous plants, highland and immortal orchids (paepalanthus). Some raptor couples “Gavião de Serra” frequent these heights. We are going to Funis Waterfall, to have a bath and picnic. Then, to our first homestay, from native houses, friendly people, electricity is solar, with rustic rooms with towels and blankets and dinner served by them, delicious home-cooked food.

Day 2: Cachoeirão Waterfall viewpoint

Stop At: Chapada Diamantina National Park, Chapada Diamantina National Park, State of Bahia
During this second day of hiking, we crossed the Gerais from Rio Preto towards Cachoeirão, an impressive 300m high waterfall. We will have a picnic there and then go to our second homestay at a native house, where we are going to dinner and breakfast after sleep.

Day 3: Going up to Castle Mountain

Stop At: Chapada Diamantina National Park, Chapada Diamantina National Park, State of Bahia
On this day we started the walk to the Castle Cave, a huge quartzite cave located at the top of the Lapinha mountain range. Arriving at the summit, we cross the cave with our flashlights to enjoy the view on the other side of the valley and picnic. After descending the castle, we recovered our belongings and changed the accommodation to another native house.

Day 4: Back to Capão Valley

Stop At: Chapada Diamantina National Park, Chapada Diamantina National Park, State of Bahia
On our last day, we are going to say goodbye to Pati and go back to Capão Valley after breakfast. To get there, we will go up the same place we went down to reach Pati Valley, the Ramp, and follow by Gerais do Rio Preto and then by Gerais do Vieira, two good plateaus for walking. Just at the end of the day, we will make a 1-hour descent to reach Capão Valley, around 6 pm.
