Itinerary

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian expression that has been developed since the colonial times as a form of cultural resistance through dance, music, rhythm, history and tradition. Also considered the Brazilian national sport and martial art.

During our 1.5 hours experience we will learn how and why it was developed by learning reactions, movements, rhythms and songs that will help us to create a “Roda” (the circle), the quintessential moment of Capoeira.

First, we will understand its background learning a little bit about the history of the enslaved people brought during the colonial times.

Then, we will practice the basic reactions and movements to build the Capoeira stance called “Ginga” and how to use it to escape and attack.

After, we will learn how to feel and reproduce basic rhythms, playing some traditional instruments and learning how to sing in basic Portuguese.

We will finish putting everything together creating the Capoeira Circle (Roda).

Come ready to move, get your hands down on the floor, sing, play music and learn a little bit of Portuguese and history of Brazil. Capoeira is about the connection and the moment of fun you create with others.
