The fortress was built in the context of the expulsion of the French by the Portuguese from Guanabara Bay. It was a strategic region that had been occupied by the French since 1555, called France Antarctica. With the Portuguese victory, in 1565 the city of Rio de Janeiro was founded.

The place has an extensive strip of sand and a boardwalk that allow the practice of various sports, hiking or just admiring the beautiful panorama.
From there, you can see the MAC and part of the city of Rio de Janeiro, highlighting the Corcovado and the Sugarloaf Mountains.
It has 750m of extension, almond trees and grasses that occupy part of the beach. Its waters are calm, with clear and fine sand.
It is bordered by bars and restaurants, points of the biggest nightlife in the city.
On a hill at the end of the beach is the Church of São Francisco Xavier.
Jurujuba Beach is bordered by a narrow sidewalk with ipê and almond trees.
