With a scenario of rare architectural beauty, full of imposing buildings in eclectic and art deco style, Praça Floriano has been, since the 1930s, the stage of important political manifestations in Rio de Janeiro. The lagoon began to be filled in 1723, in the same year that the first public fountain in the city was inaugurated there: the Chafariz da Carioca, which got its name from capturing the waters of the eponymous river, through a canalization system. that ran through the Morro de Santa Teresa. Located at the top of Morro de São Bento, the architectural ensemble, which includes the spectacular Abacial Church of Nossa Senhora do Monserrate, constitutes one of the most valuable historical heritage of the 17th century originally preserved.
