Stop At: Lapa, Lapa, State of Parana

The lively bohemian district of Lapa is famous for its traditional bars, live music clubs, ballrooms and outdoor samba sessions organized in the Roman-style Arcos da Lapa aqueduct. Another nightlife center is built around the Selarón Staircase, a famous staircase decorated with a mosaic of hand-painted tiles. During the day design enthusiasts frequent vintage and antique shops along Rua do Lavradio and Rua do Senado.

Santa Teresa is a charming hillside neighborhood with a bohemian atmosphere. The steep and winding streets are lined with elegant historic residences, many of which house chic boutique hotels, quirky cocktail bars and romantic restaurants overlooking the bay. In the area there are also several artists’ ateliers, the Museu da Chácara do Céu, with European and Brazilian works of art, and the evocative Parque das Ruínas, home to an art gallery built around the ruins of a villa.

The Dona Marta viewpoint shows an incredible view of some of the most significant attractions in Rio de Janeiro, usually uncrowded. You will be able to admire long stretches of lush forest, white sandy beaches, the Statue of Christ the Redeemer and the Sugar Loaf. At 364 meters high, it is the ideal place to watch sunrise and sunset, and from which to take magnificent shots of the nature around and the city below. Those who know Rio well recommend Dona Marta as the best vantage point.
