The work was carried out by Francisco Garcia D’Avila, who arrived with Tomé de Souza, the first Governor General of Bahia, on March 29, 1549, the date of the founding of the city of Salvador. Tomé de Souza docked at the Port of Barra, with its ships – ships of the time, equipped with a whole apparatus that started the construction of the fortress city in the highest plane, which is the city of Salvador.
